Pennsylvania Avenue, where we stand today, is one of the most recognized boulevards in the world. It delivers US Presidents to the White House and Mayors to City Hall, and with that, a continuum of social and political change. The staging of this race on this grand avenue is no coincidence. Add to this, our extension in 2011 with the National Mall and you have one of the world's most amazing criterium courses. Cycling's popularity in the US has exponentially grown from curio-sport to mainstream media, paced along by the well-chronicled success of America's internationally-acclaimed US cycling superstars. It is therefore fitting to bring this great sport of nations, to this great American street, in this great country's Capital.
